Identity Theft data elimination is a
necessity in today's explosion
of identity theft
The
Federal Trade Commission has come out
with a new report for the year ending 2008 and the identity theft
statistics included are startling. Of the total number of
complaints filed in 2008, Federal Trade Commission has found identity
theft was at the top of the list and account for 26%.
Data elimination is not easy to do. Microsoft does not provide ANY way
to
permanently erase data from a PC with ANY of their Windows operating
systems.
Some
people think
re-formatting or re-partitioning
will wipe a drive clean. NOT TRUE. There are
software
programs anyone can buy to see and recover re-formatted or
re-partitioned
drives. It takes no special skills.
All the options to
eliminate information on a
Windows PC merely disconnect pointers or indexes -- regardless of
what the
computer generated WARNING reports.
The data remains.
Erased or deleted
information IS RECOVERABLE until overwritten by new data. Often, the drive will use fresh drive space rather
than overwrite previous data. It could be years before erased data is
actually gone, if
ever. There are many inexpensive retail programs built for the purpose
of recovering erased files. Again, it takes no special skills.
